COMPUTER/ECM MODS

Overview

ECM

I used the stock ECM which came with my car and every other L03 car from 1989-1992 as far as I know.  It is usually referred to as the "8746" because those are the last 4 digits of the GM part number associated with it.

CHIP (EPROM)

The first year I had my new engine in, I used a stock chip.  It was actually a Hypertech Thermomaster, but it was configured for a stock engine, so I consider it a stock chip.  It ran OK with it, but it was obvious that I needed a better chip.  Most of the time the car screamed, but at certain parts of the RPM range, it stumbled, ran like crap, backfired, etc.  This was largely due to the fact that the chip wasn't correct for the application.
