LUBRICANTS/FLUIDS

Overview

When it comes to what oils, lubes, etc. I wanted to use only the stuff that will give me the best reliability and performance.  This usually means synthetic lubricants where possible, but sometimes just the regular old traditional stuff does the job.

Engine Oil

Mobil 1

www.mobil1.com

10W30

About $5.00 a quart

For obvious reasons, I go with synthetic motor oil in my engine.  Synthetic offers by far the best protection, and Mobil 1 is the best one you can get for the most part.  I think that Amsoil may be the same or a little bit better, but it is harder to get and I think that it is more expensive.

Tranny Fluid

Amsoil ATF

www.amsoil.com

About $8.00 a quart

Chassis Lubricant

Spohn Polyurethane Bushing and Chassis Grease

www.spohn.net

Spohn Part #:  902

$14.00 from Spohn

You are not supposed to use any type of petroleum-based lubricant on polyurethane bushings, because it could ruin the bushings.  Because of that, you should use a silicon-based lubricant.  I am pretty sure that the Spohn stuff is the same type as Mobil 1 chassis grease, but I'm not sure.  The Mobil 1 you can get all over the place.  Spohn recommends the one that they have available for every  lubrication point on the car, so I went with it.
