3-Wire O2 Sensor |
The stock (1-wire) O2 sensor works the same as a 3-wire O2 sensor does, but it just does it faster. The other two leads on the 3-wire sensor are used to heat the sensor, which is why a 3-wire one is often called a "heated" O2 sensor. Since this sensor heats up to normal operating temperature when there is power to it, it does not take the normal "warm-up" time that regular O2 sensors take. This allows it to give correct and accurate readings even when the engine is cold. Also, whenever you have a car with headers, it is recommended to use a heated O2 sensor. This is because often the headers do not allow the regular O2 sensors to get up to the correct temperature because they are in a non-stock location...usually farther from the engine that originally.

Since I switched the engine from a 305 to a 350, I switched the knock sensor to correspond with the larger engine.

Since I switched the knock sensor, I had to switch the Electronic Spark Control module so that it would "read" the knock sensor correctly.
