THROTTLE BODY MODIFICATIONS |
Ultimate TBI |
The stock L03 throttle body only flows about 450-500 cubic feet of air per minute (CFM). This isn't too great, but it can be modified to flow more, and the best part...its FREE. The following link is to the "Ultimate TBI" mods, which will get that throttle body flowing closer to where it should be.. |
Replacement Throttle Bodies |
You could also purchase a larger throttle body, such as the Holley one that flows 670 CFM. This throttle body comes with larger 2" bores (the stock bores are 1 11/16"). It will make a pretty big difference in the upper RPMs, but you will need a new intake to use it correctly, because of the larger bores. You can, however get your intake machined to match the larger bores, but it is kind of a waste of money because the stock intake isn't that good as far as performance goes. There are a couple ways that you can go. You could get a better flowing TBI intake, such as the Edelbrock Performer TBI, and have it machined to match (it has the smaller bores), or you could get the Holley intake that matches the 2" bores, or you could go with a carb intake and get an adaptor plate. The Edelbrock intake is a direct replacement, so it will be the easiest to install, but will require the machining. As far as I know, the Holley intake is a direct replacement, and it does already come with the 2" bores. A carb intake will give you the most options because there are a million out there, but you will often have to screw around with things not matching up. With a carb intake, you will also need an adaptor plate to go from the 4-bolt carb mounting, to the 3-bolt throttle body mounting.
You can see the adaptor plate on my throttle body in this picture.
