EPROM BURNING

Overview

When you do a lot of mods to just about any engine that is controlled by a computer, you will have to change the programming that tells everything how to work.  This also applied to Thirdgen F-Bodies.  Thirdgens use a "PROM", which stands for Programmable Read-Only Memory.  It is the "chip" that everyone always talks about.  The PROM is just that...a computer chip.  It stores all of the information that the engine control module (ECM) uses to control the functions of the engine, such as fuel and timing curves, among many others.

This is the programmer.  The big cord you see coming out of the right side plugs into a computer's printer port.  That is how the info goes from the computer to the chip.

This is the Eraser.  It uses ultraviolet light to erase the EPROMs.
